"A Dazzling Smile with a Beautiful Bite"
This "hands on", compact, two day Neuromusuclar Occlusion Course is designed to present the power of occlusion, practical TMD diagnosis and bite positioning for lasting restorations and comfort. The information and skills you will gain can be used immediately to enhance your practice.
There has been much confusion and discussion about occlusion, the foundation of dentistry. Over the last few years dentistry has seen a significant addition of
beautiful bonded dental materials. Dentistry is now seeing a significant interest in occlusion and designing those beautiful restorations for optimal wear, comfort and health.
Malocclusion resulting in tooth damage, periodontal loss, TMJ damage, muscle and vascular headaches are of epidemic proportions. Dentists have the ability to provide comprehensive dentistry resulting in reduced pathology and greater comfort. This first course will enable you to profitably diagnose and treat malocclusion.
This course includes mastery of:
• Why Occlusion is Important
• How to diagnose occlusal/TMD dysfunction
• Medical and Dental History and Forms
-Clinical exam protocols
-Differential diagnosis of musculo-skeletal dysfunction
(ascending vs descending problems)
• The science behind the bite
• How to evaluate the maxillary position: six dimensions
• How to evaluate the mandibular position: six dimensions
• Maxillomandibular relationship with and without TENS
• Principles of TENS
-Electrode application
-Amplitude and balance control protocols
-TENS bite
• How to use an Orthosis for diagnosis and treatment
• How to profitably incorporate Occlusion in daily practice
-Fees
- Insurance
Comparisons of equipment: articulators, TENS, EMG, jaw tracking, joint sounds (including Myotronics, BioResearch, Zebris) and force measurements (T-Scan II and Prescale).
Hands on:
Taking an aesthetic neuromuscular bite registration.
Taking an ULF-TENS neuromuscular bite registration.
Occlusal/TMD on your cases, mounted models
Adjusting and wearing a non-anatomical Orthosis
Although discussion of equipment will be provided, this
occlusion course teaches how to predictably position
the mandible in a neuromuscular and cosmetic position
without the use of elaborate diagnostic measuring
equipment.

MASTERING NEUROMUSCULAR
OCCLUSION, II
Phone 425.466.0100
Mastering Occlusion II explores deeper into scientific principles of orthopedic and neuromuscular dentistry. This hands-on program will give you the precise guidelines and compare instrumentation to find and document the bite. Topics mastered include: physiologic rest position, neuromuscular path of closure, freeway space, the Myocentric target, and the importance of screening for occlusal signs and symptoms.
You will enhance your ability to comprehensively treat aesthetic and TMD dentistry. You will be able to effectively treat patients predictably and conservatively with the an understanding of physiology, neuro-physiology and the neuromuscular philosophy of occlusion. The scientific principles and clinical use of the ULF-TENS, EMG, CMS, ESG and Jaw Tracking will be investigated and understood. This is an intense 2-day hands-on session.
Topics Mastered Include:
- Principles of Occlusion
- Muscle and joint health
- Occlusal physiology
- Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
- TMJ evaluation and space decompression.
- Importance of the occlusal reference position
- Physiologic rest position - Importance of muscle relaxation
- Freeway space
- The six dimensions of occlusion
- Picking the neuromuscular bite position
- EMG for objective occlusal evaluation and treatment
- Clinical techniques to obtain relaxation of masticatory muscles
- Measuring masticatory muscle activity
- 3 dimensional jaw movement analysis
- Joint Sounds
- Micro-occlusion
- Occlusal prematurities
- Introduction to groove, spheroid and point technique of coronoplasty
- Physiologic reality of cuspid rise and anterior guidance
Hands on:
- Joint sound recordings
- Electromyography
- Jaw Tracking
- ULF-TENS
- Micro-occlusion adjustments

Micro-Occlusion, Part III
"Finishing the Case with detailed Coronoplasty"
Prerequisites: Occlusion II
Phone 425.466.0100
This program will build on the neuromuscular maxillomandibular relationship with precise clinical techniques for refining the natural dentition and prosthetics. Participants will first practice the step by step coronoplasty procedure on laboratory models, followed by hands-on clinical experience adjusting occlusion on orthotics or natural dentition.
Micro-occlusion is the "second half" of occlusion and is essential to further improve patient comfort.

Topics Mastered:
- Anatomy and physiology of occlusion
- Cuspid guidance, group function and anterior guidance
- Parafunciton: bruxers and clenchers
- What to adjust, when to restore and/or provide Orthodontics
- Determining tooth surface to adjust - simple and precise!
- Groove, spheroid and point
- How to direct forces in the tooth long axis
- Providing freedom of entry for a stable centric occlusion
- Management of Class I, II & III occlusal prematuraties
- Occlusal prematurities
- How to establish cusp/fossae contacts
- Taking the torque out of occlusion
- Identifying micro pre-maturities
- Occlusal troubleshooting

The ART AND SCIENCE
OF OCCLUSION Course IV
THE TRIGEMINAL NERVE AND ASSOCIATED STRUCTURES
16 hours CE
Prerequistes: The Art and Science of Occlusion II
Dentists are the primary health care providers of the structures associated with the trigeminal nerve. Dysfunction of these soft and hard tissues, trauma to these structures, and optimal function of this system is the focus of this course.
Proper diagnosis requires both a clear understanding of "physiologic normal" and "Signs and Symptoms" of dysfunction. We cannot diagnose what we do not see. Dentists are experts at diagnosing decay and periodontal disease prior to the onset of pain and we can become experts at diagnosing temporomandibular/crainiomandibular disorders (TMD) prior to the onset of pain.
This course includes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TMD. You will be provided with detailed, yet simple, differential diagnosis and treatment methods for signs and symptoms of TMD , both for pediatric and adult patients.
Topics Mastered:
-
Growth, development and function of the cranio-facial structures.
-
Environment, allergies, and upper airway influences during development
-
Clinical signs of upper airway obstruction in the development of malocclusion,
-
The etiology and correction of tongue thrust
-
Malocclusion and temporomandibular joint disorders
-
Etiology of degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) other than systemic disease
-
Etiology of myofacial pain dysfunction
-
Comprehensive clinical examination protocols - the 12 cranial nerves
-
Radiographic, MRI and CAT Scans.
-
What to do and how to treat TM D neuromuscularly and non-surgically
-
Medical dental legal protocols - How to handle supenas, attorneys, depositions, reports and fees
